Temperature Sensor Transmitters

Many times, we wonder what type of transmitter we should choose for a project. There are too many options available on the market, as well as many features to consider in order to achieve safety and reliability.

One of the most important features to consider for keeping our system running is whether we want the transmitter to be mounted directly on the sensor or connected remotely.

In the field, I came across a Brazilian brand called Novus that offers a feature I was truly impressed by: the ability to connect to the transmitter using a laptop, a field device, or even a smartphone by downloading an app.

Here is why I consider this a very helpful feature for troubleshooting in the field when you are working alone.

Case: You receive a call because the field reading does not seem accurate. You want to rule out any issues with the cable or the signal. With this feature, you can connect directly to the device and compare the reading at the transmitter with the signal received by the PLC analog input card. This allows you to easily eliminate cabling issues without having to disconnect any wiring.

The reading on the app you’ll see in your device will be different than the one showing in SCADA.

On the picture above you can see the type of cables needed to stablish connection with the transmitter.
